The Olympic lifts: tough to learn but rewarding

The Olympic lifts - the snatch, clean, and jerk - are difficult to learn and very hard to master, but everyone showed good progress today. Be patient and keep working on them, and you will improve and learn to love them. We include these complex, dynamic lifts along with the simpler deadlift, press, and squat because the explosive power and coordination they require translates well to many movements. We also think that Olympic weightlifting is a wonderful, inclusive sport that you can get involved in at any age and level of experience. Colorado has a friendly weightlifting community with many local and regional meets and events. And we are lucky to have Randy, a seasoned USAW National coach, leading the Barbell Strategy Weightlifting Team. In the near future, we will be offering some weightlifting clinics, which will be a great way to work on your technique. Stay tuned for more information.
