Bonus Test Day

Vaidy squatting 45lbs more than has ever been on his back before.
It's been fun this week with everyone who's doing the strength program testing their maxes.  As a bonus, we'll use today's class for more max testing.  It doesn't matter if you're planning on doing the strength program or not, it's still fun (and a good idea) to periodically know how much you can lift.  We don't do this often, but today we'll crank the '80s hair metal and pick up some heavy barbells.

We like everyone to have an idea of what their max is on the core lifts (squat, press, deadlift) and the olympic lifts (clean and jerk, snatch).  If for no other reason, it's an easy way to verify that you're getting stronger, but it's also good to know for scaling a workout.  For example, when a workout calls for a heavy-5, we like to say that's around 80%, but if you don't know what it's 80% of, we're just guessing.

Even if you're still new to this, come in and start to see what heavier weights feel like.  We're not going to go crazy until your form breaks down and it's dangerous, but we'd like to push you out of your comfort zone and see what you can really do - I bet you'll surprise yourself.
