Simplify your life with Shark Habits

Joe setting up for a heavy deadlift
This article about "shark habits" came through on my RSS this weekend.  It's a bit long and rambly, much like all of Dan John's articles, but there are lots of nuggets of good information in there, so it is worth your time to read.

This is the first time I hear about the term shark habit, that is something you do in one bite - like a shark. Touch your mail once, either respond or throw away; answer emails right away; have a repeating grocery list; make your plans to come the gym regularly.

There are some of you I see every week on the same days (and I get worried if you skip) - you're taking care of your shark habits. Not only are the sharks making the best progress in the gym, but I'm sure it's less stressful. If you always come to the gym on certain days, you know to schedule around it, there's no chance that "something will come up" and take away your workout.

This something that I've done naturally and it works out well.  I have a small set of the same clothes I wear to work every day.  We have a running Whole Foods and Costco list - it's even been "traveling-salesmanized" to minimize the trip time in the store. I'm not as good with touching an email only once, but that's going to be my goal this week - add one more shark habit to simplify my life.

Take a look at this up coming week, what do you have planned? What do you do every week? Can you make some processes that you can repeat next week? Try making some shark habits this week, and take the decision fatigue out of your day. You'll feel better, and when you feel better, you'll train better and you'll get stronger and healthier.
