Rowing in the #turkeychallenge2016

Where's Mike?
The biggest ever Turkey Challenge is going on in Denver this weekend. I've always liked this event. I participated in the first ever one in 2010, then did a few more. When it was smaller we also volunteered and judged at the event. Rowing is a common event in the Turkey Challenge - so here's a reminder of an article I wrote last year about how to game rowing when it's part of a large competition.

tl;dr: Joe did the fluid mechanics, your effort scales in a very bad way (you need to put 8 times the effort to go twice as fast). If you're rowing for meters or time (not calories) - dial it back a bit. You'll save more energy for later in the competition than you'll gain by going all out.
